ACONE January Icebreaker Social 2018

The Evolution of the Lawrence Municipal Airport

Tuesday, January 16, 6-8:30 PM

The Aero Club of New England kicks off its social season with a presentation Mike Miller, Airport Manager at Lawrence Municipal Airport. Learn everything there is to know about KLWM, past and present, with a particular emphasis on the last 15 years. KLWM came into existence in 1935 and shortly after became a station on the Northeast Airlines system. Service ceased in the early 1950's but left the present terminal building as a legacy. By then KLWM was well established as the region's GA airport. Over the decades, growth rates varied, but the last 15 years have seen continued increases in construction, aviation-related activities and other commerce. The big news however, is the recent completion of the runway project. This multi-million dollar project involved reconstruction of runway 5/23, the addition of runway safety areas, a new run-up area and the latest taxiway markings.

Mike will discuss the cooperation between local and FAA officials in realizing the project, as well as its benefits to pilots.
