When we think of drones, we immediately think of quad copters or model aircraft. With a little more though we might think of the military drones like the Predator, however real impact of this new segment of aviation is yet to occur. What has been going on over the past several years in selected parts of the US is work involving introducing large UAS into general US airspace. This talk will bring you through Bob’s involvement to date and give you some insight into where we are going.
Bob Di Meo will give a quick review of the Part 107 rules and Special Rule for Model Aircraft (Section 336 of the 2012 FAA Modernization and Reform Act). Then he will spend the rest of the time talking about what it took to get permission to fly a large research drone in North Dakota and what the operation looks like from the morning briefing to the afternoon debrief.
